Paper Box Tutorial

What I've Been Working On Lately

Lovely Leather Shoes

And a fun boxes to keep them in.

Want to make your own paper box?  Here's how:

Choose 2 pieces of 12x12 scrapbooking paper.  I chose 2 of the same pattern but you can do different ones for the box and lid.

Download these corner stencils to trace HERE or just make your own.  The Box piece measures 3 5/8 x 3 7/8 and the Lid piece measures 3 1/2 x 3 5/8.  Print the corner stencils and cut them out.
(I am not sure if it will print out at those measurements or if it even matters but you can adjust the percentages to make it bigger or smaller when you print.)

The trace the stencil labeled Box onto each corner.  Put the part labeled "corner" with an arrow into the corner of your paper and trace along the black edge.

(This picture does not show the labels but the one that you print out from above does.)

And then cut the corners off.

Fold the sides in half.

Make a crease for each side by folding it forward to where the adjoining sides start, like in the picture above.

Fold up the flaps.

Put glue all over one side piece EXCEPT on the far right side.  You will need this space to remain open for later.  I tried to used a purple glue stick but it kept changing color too fast.  Then, refold the side so it is glued together (except for the far right).

Now, start to glue the box sides together.  Put glue on the side to the left of the one you just glued.  This time glue the entire side together.  Also put glue on the front and the back of the flap from the first side.  Then, fold the sides up and position the flap to it gets sandwiched in the side piece.  Do this for the next 2 sides.

Now you can see why you had to leave an unglued space in the first side.  Put glue on the flap of the remaining side and tuck in into the unglued open space of the first side.

There you have it: a box!  Next, comes the lid.  Follow the same steps above by tracing the stencil labeled Lid this time.  Cut the corner pieces off and...

This time instead of folding each side in half only once, you fold them in half twice for a double fold.

The corners need to be clipped as you can see in the picture above.

Clip the small triangle off so you have an empty triangle.

Next glue the first fold of each side down.  Then, continue to follow the directions for the box, gluing and folding and fitting the flaps in the sides.

What will you use your box for?  Leather shoes, a birthday gift, candy or homemade treats?

Or even make a basket by attaching a handle instead of making a lid!
