Scratch Off iGive Tickets Tutorial {free printable}

It is so easy for Christmas to become all about receiving especially for kids. How do you keep the gimmies away and get your kids into the Christmas spirit of giving? That is something I think about every year.

One year, I had my kids go through their toys to give to others. Most of the time they sell the toys they outgrow at our garage sale and then buy something new. But I thought it would be nice for them to be able to pass on the things they loved to someone they thought would enjoy it. We have a very large family so they chose a toy for every child in the family who was younger than them. They found all the parts for the toys, cleaned them up and wrapped them. And they were so excited to give the gifts to the younger kids and the cousins were delighted to receive them.

Another way my kids like to give at Christmas is to put money into the red Salvation Army buckets! Vanessa cannot pass the bucket without add money. She will search the car until she finds something to add even if it is only a couple of dusty pennies!

Christine’s high school is collecting toys, hat and mittens to give to people in our town. She noticed that the box in her classroom was empty. So, Christine bought some toys and her friend bought gloves, a hat and socks to add to the box.

And this Christmas we are involved in the Champions for Kids Simple Service Project Of the Month. Each month Champions for Kids has a different Simple Service Project and this month it is Disney Stocking Stuffer Celebration. But I also wanted to come up with a way to get kids (and adults) to think about giving regularly. So, I came with iGive Tickets. They make it easy…just grab a ticket…scratch off…and give!

After checking out tutorials for making scratch offs here and here, I designed these tickets. I printed them on card stock and covered the words in the circle with a piece of packing tape. It is hard to see the tape in the picture but you can see a faint outline. I used scissors to cut a circle from a piece of packing tape but just placing a strip of tape of the whole thing would work too. Clear Contact Paper for the circles or laminating the tickets would also work.

Then, I mixed 2 parts of silver paint with 1 part of dish soap. For example, use 2 tsp paint and 1 tsp dish soap.

I painted over the white circles with the paint & soap mixture. I only need one coat of paint.

After allowing the paint to dry, I cut out the tickets.

I also made a box to store the tickets in. The playing card style boxes make it easier to give these tickets as part of a gift…like maybe as a stocking stuffer?

Just print on card stock, cut on the solid lines, fold on the dotted lines and glue together. I designed one blank box template (so you can add your own label) and one with the iGive label on it. You can print this template here.

Tonia, I love these tickets! They’re just fabulous. They’d be great for Father’s Day or anything. I’m bookmarking this. I’ve often wondered about making a scratch it. We’ve just spent the last couple of days culling all of the kid’s toys and they were very kind in giving up a lot of them for other children. I think it’s important as well that they understand the whole giving instead of just receiving at Christmas time and anytime really.
