Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Scones & A $25 Gift Card Giveaway

Is your New Year’s Resolution to lose weight?  That was my resolution 2 years ago and I lost 20 lbs by limiting sugar.  Do you ever use sugar alternatives?  My favorite is Truvia!  I’ve been using it for 2 years now and still love it.  One of the ways I use Truvia is to make my Chocolate Chip Scones. After I share my recipe, you can enter to win a box of Truvia and a $25 American Express Gift Card!
Put the flour, baking soda, salt and Truvia in a bowl and cut stick of butter into mixture.
Add sour cream, egg, vanilla and chocolate chips.  Mix until just combined and then knead a few times.  The less you handle the dough the better!
Divide dough in half and gently form into 2 circles on a greased cookie sheet.  Cut into 8 wedges but do not separate them.
Bake for about 14 minutes until golden brown.

Mix together by hand:
2 cups flour

1/3 cup Truvia

2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Cut 1/2 cup cold butter into slices and add to flour mixture. Cut butter into flour mixture.

Add to bowl:
1/2 cup sour cream
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups sugar free chocolate chips (I use Hershey’s brand from Walmart)
Mix with a fork until mixture comes together.  DO NOT over mix or scones will be rock hard!
Gather dough in a lump and gently knead 5 or 6 times.  I did this in the bowl but you can do it on a lightly floured surface, if you prefer.
Divide dough in half and gently form into 2 circles on a greased cookie sheet. Cut into 8 wedges with a long, sharp, floured knife but DO NOT separate the wedges.
Bake at 425°F for about 14 minutes until golden brown.

  73. So maybe I do something wrong when I make these. I’ve made these 4 or 5 times now and they turn out tasting so good, even my husband and toddler love it! However I end up adding about 1/2 cup or more of almond milk to it because when I’m kneading it together it’s just not moist enough at all, it’s crumbly and falls apart. I make sure to follow the directions to a T thinking I must be missing something but every time I end up adding vanilla almond milk. Oh well, it still comes out super tasty!!

    • I’m happy you found a way to make them work for you! I’ve made these so many times without any issues but thanks for the tip because other readers may have run into the same problem!
