Spring Flowers Advice Needed

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Although it has been a warm here in Minnesota and spring has officially arrived, I’m not sure that it is time to start planting flowers outside.  We could still get another snow storm!  But I want to figure out what to plant so that I am ready when the time arrives.  That is where you come in…I need your help!!  I have a planter and I have Miracle-Gro Expand ‘n Gro but I am wondering WHAT to plant.

I live in Zone 4 and I am looking for flowers to plant in a long planter that is in front of my house.  It gets the morning sun but is then in shade the rest of the day.  I want the flowers to be lower growing so that they don’t create a barrier.

I am really excited to try out the Miracle-Gro Expand ‘n Gro Concentrated Planting Mix that I was sent on my new flowers!  The bag is lightweight and easy-to-store yet it can do so much…

  • Planting mix expands up to 3X when mixed with water
  • Get up to 3X the flowers and veggies vs using native soil
  • Improve native soil for several years
  • Continues to feed for up to 6 months
  • Holds up to 50% more water than basic potting soil due to natural fibers

What are you planting this spring?  If you want to make the prep work easier, print a coupon for $3.00 off Expand ‘n Gro™  and try it out this spring along with me!

So, do you have any advice for me?  What kind of flowers should I plant and when can I plant them?

  1. i have no good advice other than I think geraniums are the perfect flower – even I can’t kill them, lol! But I do love your porch :)

  2. Pansies…they can even handle a few snowstorms. ;)

  3. Hello my lovely friend! Sorry I haven’t been around much but you know the reason why. I signed on to Google Reader the other and have about 900 blog posts to read. I’ll slowly get through them all but just wanted to let you know I’m still here and am missing our regular catch ups. Living in a sub tropical zone I can’t really help you but I know our southern states who have snow in the height of winter have a lot of success with bulbs, eg daffodils etc. You could pop them in the ground now and they should be ready soon. I’ve been trying to search online for plants that are suitable for Zone 4 but without much luck. I’m sure your local nursery could also help.

    Missing you,
    Anne xx

  4. How about lots of nasturtiums? Easy to grow from seed, you can even eat the flowers and the are so bright and cheerful.
