Spotlight Friday: Guest Post by One Dog Woof

Hi!  I’m so happy to be guest posting here at The Gunny Sack today, and it’s all because Tonia threw a great birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago, with some great prizes!  Thank you Tonia, and I wish you all the best for your blog this year, and for many years to come!
I’m ChiWei, and I blog over at One Dog Woof.  I’m write about whatever is floating my boat on any particular day, be it crafts, home projects, recipes or just random ramblings of an overtired mom.  I guess I’m probably a bit quirky, so if you want some quirkiness, come on by for a visit!
I’m sharing a couple of super easy projects today.  The first is a little favor for a spa themed bachelorette party we had for a good friend of ours last weekend.  Ok, before you start imagining lavender aromatherapy candles and hour long messages in a room with a tinkling waterfall, let me set you all straight.  This was just a group of girlfriends getting together at one of our houses with a movie, some nail polish and sushi.  We were all invited to bring whatever face mask, eye gel, nail polish or lotion we wanted to use and share.  So I thought as a favor, I could put together a package of little things that people may not WANT to share – like a nail file, and those little toe separators!  (because really, would you share those?)
Here are instructions for the favors I made.  Basically, I bought toe separators and a pack of nail files.  I was going to add washcloths, but didn’t have time to run to Target and a multi-pack.  I ended up finding individually packed disposable cleansing cloths from Olay.  Every brand makes them, but Olay was the only ones I found that were individually wrapped.  I made a couple of little labels (these are the same ones I made for my Mom’s birthday party), and then wrapped everything together with a strip of washi tape.   How easy was that?  Really, it was only assembly, plus a couple of paper punches!
We ended up not using them, as we were too engrossed with the sushi and just chatting with each other, but these little favors would work for any spa themed party!
The second easy peasy project was also for the bachelorette party.  I found the idea on Pinterest (of course!), and made a couple of signs for an impromptu photobooth.  Once again, let’s define the “photobooth” – it was a camera on a tripod, pointed at a wall.
I cut out some dialogue bubbles from cardstock, as well as a big mustache, and a pair of pouting lips.  Then I outlined them in the thickest Sharpie pen I had.  There’s no need to be exact on the drawing.  I drew everything freehand so it looked a bit cartoonish.  (Because come on, me sporting a mustache and saying “Que?” is more than a bit cartoonish).  Que?  Yes, I wrote some spanish words/sayings on the bubbles, since our friend is marrying a Puerto Rican, and I thought it would be appropriate, plus I really wanted to draw upside down question marks and exclamation points!    I bought 1/8″ dowels from Joann’s at $0.29 each, and cut them into foot-long segments, which worked out perfectly.  Tape the cardstock to dowels, and you’ve got yourself some cool looking and inexpensive photobooth props!
There’s me, with my not-yet-dry nails, trying to look…I dunno what I was going for.
Thanks so much, ChiWei, for being a guest at The Gunny Sack today!  I could really use a spa night with my girlfriends!  Be sure to stop by One Dog Woof and check out all of the other great things ChiWei has posted including an amazing birthday party that she threw for her mom!
Due to stolen content, I have found it necessary to only show a snippet of my blog posts in my feed. Thank you for understanding that I want to keep the content I work hard to create on my website where it is originally published: thegunnysack.com

  3. LOL Maybe the look you were going for was “carefree?” I like the idea of bundling up the spa stuff with a cute little tag. So pretty!
