After making hats we played a couple of games. In the first game, the kids were blindfolded and they had to crawl around on the floor with a wooden spoon in their hand. While the other kids shouted directions for which way they should go, the crawling child would swing the spoon back and forth until they hit the pot of candy. Once they found the candy, they got to pick a treat. In the second game, the hostess would read German words and the kids would have to guess what it meant. Whoever was the first to guess right got piece of candy.

We had a great time and I look forward to showing you this week’s summer camp soon! Our country is going to be Australia! I’ve gotten some great ideas from my friend Anne who lives in Australia but I would love to hear your ideas as well!
What are some fun ideas for our Australian Summer Camp?

Hello, I'm Tonia. Welcome to The Gunny Sack, where I want to inspire others through recipes, crafts and tutorials.

What a great idea! When my kids were little, we would have theme days during the summer. This helped us stay focused and do something productive with most of our days.
Vegemite. I double dog dare you to eat it for your Australian summer camp lol. I can’t wait to do this sort of thing when my girls are a little older. Too cool mom!
You could make Olympic gold medals because there’ll be a few of those going Australia’s way in the pool in London these next few days! LOL (Just kidding. You Yanks will whip our butts.) I agree with Vegemite. Every Australian kid eats it (well most of them – mine do). You could blindfold the kids and not tell them its coming. LOL You could print off some of our money and try to guess the Australian animals that are on them. Also listen to the sounds of some of the birds and print out pictures of what they look like. I just thought of you as I heard the kookaburras going crazy in my backyard. Wish I was there to give you a hand. Sounds like heaps of fun!

What a fun idea! I bet the kids love doing this! Australia ideas: charades with Australian animals: emu, koala, kangaroo, kiwi, etc. Or make puppets of the animals and have a puppet show using an Australian accent. How about running relays that involve kangaroo jumping, koala 4-leg crawling, emu flapping, etc. Are you planning on having boomerangs to play with? I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
