What are you thankful for this year? One of the things I am most thankful for is my family and friends! We have been blessed with so many people who truly love and care for us that sometimes it is simply amazing! How do you show others that you are thankful to have them in your life? There are so many small ways this can be done. It can be something as simple as a kind word or handwritten note saying that you care. Another thing I am thankful for is our health! With the arrival of the holiday season, comes the arrival of the cold and flu season! The sounds of the season include sniffles, sneezes and coughs. In fact, we’ve had someone in our household not feeling well for three weekends in a row. Thankfully, we were feeling great this past weekend and hopefully, with Thanksgiving only a couple of days away, we will all continue to feel well! But even with these minor illnesses we have been blessed with overall good health!
Did your mom do anything special for you when you were sick as a child? When I was young, my mom used to give us a cool washcloth to put on our foreheads when we were feverish. When it got warm, she would cool it off again. So, when Vanessa had strep throat recently, I did the same thing for her. Another thing my mom used to do was give use books on tape to listen too. Times have changed and instead of using a cassette tape player, Vanessa listened to audiobooks on the iPad that we downloaded from our library. Getting engrossed in a good story helps pass the time and takes your mind off feeling miserable for a few minutes. I want my kids to be as comfortable as possible when they are sick and I try to get my kids to take care of each other as well. The ones that aren’t sick are expected to help the one who is sick by getting them things that they need and doing their chores for them. This teaches compassion for others and when they are the recipient of their siblings kindness it makes them grateful to be part of a loving family.

Not only is it important for kids to have compassion for their own siblings, I think it is important for them to have compassion for everyone in their lives. So, I assembled some mini Kleenex packages that we will keep in our car’s glove box. My kids can give them to people who are feeling under the weather. Not only will it make that person feel a little better, my kids will feel good for having helped out in a small way. I started out with 3 mini packages of Kleenex tissues, 3 strips of kraft paper, 3 strips of scrapbooking paper, craft twine and tape.

I wrapped the kraft paper around the Kleenex and taped it in place. Then, I wrapped the scrapbooking paper around the kraft paper and tape it in place. Finally, I added some craft twin and tied it in a bow.

Don’t forget that sharing a Kleenex tissue with someone in need is a small but kind gesture! Kleenex brand is giving consumers the opportunity to share a Kleenex Brand Care pack with someone who needs a little care, while supplies last! To participate, purchase a Kleenex brand bundle pack and redeem the code on the box by visiting Kleenex.com and following the instructions. You can learn more on the Kleenex Facebook page.
How do you teach your kids to care for others?
I wrote this review while participating in an ambassador program by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the Kleenex brand and received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
Hi, I'm Tonia from The Gunny Sack! As a wife and mother of three, I enjoy cooking, creating and capturing it all with my camera! Coffee, with a little chocolate now and then, keeps me happy.

How neat! Never even thought of dressing those things up!
