How To Decorate A Laptop With Bling

Wondering how to decorate a laptop with bling? Staples provided me with a lovely back-to-school Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook to review and my college bound daughter added some bling to it!

How to Decorate A Laptop with BlingWith Christine starting her second year of college, we knew she needed a new laptop. Last year, she used our old laptop and although it got the job done it was time to replace it. She is delighted to be starting off this school year with a Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook from Staples! The color of the laptop is silver and cover is dark gray aluminium. Christine has loved the all things sparkly and the color silver for most of her life. When she was 4, I brought her to a Pre-Kindergarten screening. One of the things they asked her was to name different colors. She knew all of her colors but she got one of them wrong. When they showed her the color gray, she promptly told them it was silver! They replied that it was gray and she just gave them a funny look! So, this is the perfect laptop for Christine and she personalized the cover with some sparkly bling!

Apply Bling To LaptopIt was super easy to decorate the laptop with bling. We bought a package of Jolee’s dimensional scrapbooking stickers described as silver puffy flourish with gems. They are sticky enough to stay put but Christine was easily able to reposition them. Just peel from the plastic backing and adhere to the laptop cover wherever you want the stickers to go. Christine went with corner design and added the gems in between the flourish stickers.

If you aren’t familiar with ultrabooks, they are really thin laptops. Ultrabooks were designed to reduce bulk while keeping the same processing power and battery life. This Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook only weighs 3.7 lbs! This laptop will be going everywhere with Christine this year. It is light and slim, easy to carry around and will be easy on her back!

But the coolest feature to Christine (and to Vanessa, our tween) is the touch screen! Christine has had a touch screen cell phone for several years and is used to using our iPad so using a touch screen laptop is natural. She is planning to do all eBooks this year instead of the traditional textbooks. One of her first comments about this Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook was that the touch screen will be perfect for reading textbooks! She can scroll along as she reads. Of course, she could put all of her textbooks onto a tablet but that would mean she would have to carry around an additional item. It will be much more convenient to have everything on her laptop.

Lenovo U310 CalendarThe second thing that Christine commented on while checking out the laptop was that it has a built-in, full screen calendar. She can add her class schedule, all of her assignments, lab dates and work schedule to this calendar and see everything in one glance.

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Side SwipeThis Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook has Windows 8 operating system. I’ve never used Windows 8 but my brother-in-law has Windows 8 on his laptop and he said it is really handy. He said it took him a little to get used of but now he loves it. My friend has a Windows phone and she really likes it. Vanessa has been testing out Christine’s new laptop while Christine is at work (shhh…don’t tell Christine) and she already knows how everything works. She told me that if you want to get back to the home screen, just swipe from the right side and this toolbar will pop up. Touch “Start” and you will be taken back to the home screen.

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Ultrabook KeyboardBesides having an onscreen, pop-up keyboard, this Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook has a standard keyboard that is very comfortable to use. Christine can use the onscreen keyboard for typing in small things like web addresses and use the standard keyboard for writing papers or composing emails.

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 TouchPadAlthough I’m sure Christine will usually use the touch screen for most of the navigation, this laptop comes with a multi-touch touchpad so she won’t need to carry a mouse around with her. Yet another way that her load will be lightened this year!

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Ultrabook StickersLooking for the specs? Boring? Maybe to some but VERY important when buying a new laptop! First of all, this laptop is made by Lenovo which is a trusted brand. The Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook has an Intel i5 processor which is one of Intel’s better processors. The information on the Staple’s website says that with this processor you can get an automatic burst of speed when you need it because of the Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0! I’m not sure what that all means but I love the sound of having a burst of speed when you need it! There will be times when Christine is rushing to look something up or finish up an assignment before it is due and might need that burst of speed!

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 LabelThis laptop has 4 GB memory. Combined with i5 processor that is plenty of processing power for a student. Christine will be able to write papers, research online and prepare presentations without any issues. It has 500 GB storage which is plenty of storage for a student. Besides having all of her school work on the laptop, she will be able to store her photos as well.

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Size CompairsonI decided to compare the size of this Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Ultrabook with the laptop I use daily. The difference is significant, as you can see. Christine’s new laptop measures 13.11″ x 8.85″ x 0.71″ and the screen measures 13.3″. With 6 hours of battery life, she can use the laptop at school or the library without having to immediately plug it in. There is an integrated 720p HD webcam that she can use to Skype with her friends who are living in other states.  There are 3 USB slots for plugging in other devices, as well as a built-in media card reader.
