 Today I am excited to have my only first guest for {handmade} Back to School…Coley’s Corner!!  When I posted my first {handmade} Back to School tutorial, I put a call out for guests!  Coley saw that and wanted to share her Back to School Count Downer!
If you would like to be a guest and share your idea, send me an email to thegunnysack {at}
Hi y’all!
My name is Nicole but my guy calls me Honey, my son calls me Momma, and my friends call me Coley. So you can call me Coley too. I’m excited to be guest posting here at The Gunny Sack today! Let me tell you a little bit about myself and then I’ll share a back to school project with you.
I’m a work from home Momma and wife proud to call South Carolina my home. My home on the web is called Coley’s Corner and it serves many different purposes for me. My son, Noah, has Cerebral Palsy, Borderline Autism, Epilepsy, and Scoliosis so some days my blog is a place for me to vent, share his accomplishments, educate others on disabilities, and advocate for the disabled. While other days it is a place just for me to share tutorials on my latest craft project, show you a cool photo, or share a recipe. I hope you’ll stop by and take a peek at my little spot in cyberspace.
On to my project – a fun way to count down the days until it’s time to board the bright yellow bus and hit the books!
I think my child is probably one of the few children on the planet that loves school so much that he is upset when it becomes time for summer break. Sometimes I’m not so sure if it is school that he loves so much or the routine of school. Either way, he has been asking pretty much since the last day of school how many more days until summer break is over and it’s time to go back to school.
Now that we are in the home stretch until the first day of school I decided to make him a “Back to School Counter Downer.” I was a little lost for exactly what I was going to do until I was in The Dollar Tree and saw this felt yellow school bus…..
Suddenly inspired, I also grabbed a black piece of poster board and headed home to get started. Once at home, I gathered a few more supplies: a pencil, scissors, my chalkboard paint, a foam brush, glue, ribbon, and some vinyl.
With my pencil, I traced the school bus onto the black poster board and cut it out. I laid it on the poster board and traced where the windows would go, grabbed my chalkboard paint and painted just the window areas on the poster board.
While it was drying, I used my Silhouette machine to cut out the words “days until school starts” out some of blue vinyl I’d had left over from another project. (If you don’t have any vinyl on hand or don’t have a Silhouette or Cricut you could just use sticker letters or paint the words on with acrylic paint.)
Once my paint was dry, I glued the school bus onto the poster board with my glue gun. Then I put the vinyl words in the 2nd and 3rd windows of the bus, leaving the first window open to write the number of days in. Then I tied a piece of ribbon around a piece of chalk and glued that to the back of the bus and made a hanger with ribbon and glued it to the back of the bus as well.
And now it looks like this……
An adorable and fun way to count down the days until school starts!
And my little guy loves it – most important factor to me!
Thanks to Tonia for letting me guest post here at The Gunny Sack today!
I hope you all will stop by Coley’s Corner and say hi!
