elastic headbands
I was browsing around Anthropologie’s website last night and came across these elastic multitude headbands that are $15.00 for a 4 pack.  From the reviews on the site it sounds like people love them.  Here’s the thing…these are the EASIEST headbands to make!!

different colors of elastic
The elastic is called Fold Over Elastic.  You can buy it at Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, Etsy or wherever you buy fabric or sewing supplies.  There is some adorable designs on sale at Joann’s this week for $5.24 for 4 yards.  I purchased mine from Pick Your Plum. With 4 yards of fold over elastic, you can make 7-8 headbands and only pay $5.24…talk about a huge savings!!!
cut pieces of elastic
Cut the elastic into 18-19 inch lengths depending on how tight you want the headband and the size of the person you are making the head band for.  You can also measure using a headband you already have or just loop the elastic around the wearer’s head to measure.

tie knots in elastic
Then, tie a knot with the 2 ends.  Easy peasy!

elastic headbands
These headbands are great for little kids too because they are so soft that they can keep their hair back without bothering them.  So, clip out a 40% off coupon, stop by the fabric store and save yourself some money!

What is your favorite headband?

Didn’t know they had patterns, too. This is awesome! Maybe it’s a headband that would actually stay in my little girls’ hair.

Very cute, plue great idea & knockoff! I love my (overpriced) wide lulu headbands for yoga. And I have some pretty handmade ribbon headbands lined with velvet that a friend gave me. The velvet really grips onto hair well!-caroline @ c.w.frosting

I love this idea! I went to yoga today and saw similar headbands (also wildly expensive!). I was thinking I’d shop around for cheaper ones, but now I can make my own! And lots of them to match my yoga outfits! (Why I need to match an exercise outfit, I’m not sure, but if I can, why not?!)

Doesn’t it kill you that Anthro charges that much for something so simple? I have a ton of that elastic … I’ll have to make some headbands for my girls.

Ok, the sign of brilliance is to take something so cool and be able to simplify it enough for dummies like me. Beautiful.

I had to read this three times looking for the gotcha because this is 1.) too stinkin’ easy and 2.) too darn cute and 3.) too dang practical! Putting this on my list for next trip to JoAnn’s!

I know a couple sites that sell $1 a yard or 2 yards of 3 colors for $2.75 an these are great! Also the $1 store carries already made ones! 5 for $1! How’s great is that? I’m a crafter an do headbands, hairbows ect an why pay $15 for just elastic? It’s crazy! Love how you put this up hun!
