Make a batch of Christmas Muddy Buddies aka Puppy Chow with your kids and put it into fun cupcake liners to give as gifts from the kitchen. Sponsored by Chex.
My son commented recently that two of the things my family always includes in holiday celebrations are Chexâ„¢ Muddy Buddies (or puppy chow, as we call it) and mocha punch (a cold coffee/ice cream beverage).
So, I asked him if he wanted to learn how to make muddy buddies and he said sure. These Christmas muddy buddies turned out so awesome that he decided to give some to the kids he babysits.
Muddy Buddies are easy to make, delicious and they make a great holiday gift!
Zack enjoys cooking and baking once he gets into the kitchen, although sometimes it is hard to pull him away from whatever he is doing to get him into the kitchen.
I’ve told him that he is a true cook because working in the kitchen relaxes him and he feels happy after making something, rather than stressed out like some people do. I hope he continues to cook and bake as he grows older.
To make muddy buddies, measure Corn Chex (you can also use Rice Chex or Chocolate Chex) into a large bowl and set aside.
Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter, butter, and vanilla in the microwave. Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal and stir to coat.
Put powdered sugar into a 2-gallon sized zip top bag (or use two 1-gallon sized zip top bags like we did), add the chocolate covered cereal and shake to coat. Pour onto waxed paper and allow it to cool.
Zack was surprised at how easy it was to make the muddy buddies and I am happy to have passed the tradition down to him. The smell of warm chocolate and peanut butter was irresistible and we had to try some of the Chex Muddy Buddies while still warm.
We filled Christmas cupcake liners with the Chex Muddy Buddies, wrapped them with plastic, and tied the top closed with a pretty ribbon.
Zack and Vanessa gave them to some of the kids they babysit. The kids were delighted with the gift and started eating them right away.
Vanessa wants to make a batch of the Christmas Muddy Buddies to give as gifts her friends and we decided that she can call it “Buddy Chow”!
