I’ve been wanting to try the glow-in-the-dark lanterns that I’ve been seeing online and thought that Halloween would be a great time!
All I needed were some plastic jars or bottles and glow sticks. I bought these 15 count glow sticks from the dollar section at Target.
Crack and activate 2 of the glow sticks. Cut of the tip of the sticks and empty them into the container. It takes quite a bit of tapping and shaking to get the glowing liquid out. Use common sense and be really careful not to get it into your eyes! This is a task for adults!
There are little glass or plastic pieces in the glow sticks that may come out into the container. I used 2 glow sticks per container but use as many as you want. Shake the bottle to spread the glow liquid around. If you have little ones around, it would be wise to glue the container lid shut to keep them safe!
Then, I attached cutouts to the bottles with Elmer’s Craftbond Glue Spots. Do you recognize the from the treat bags I made?
Using a shoelace, we made a jar/jug/sling knot to give the lantern a handle so it is easier to carry while trick-or-treating or playing outside in the dark!
Vanessa made this tutorial on how to make tie a jar/jug/sling knot to make a handle for the glow lantern. She was really excited to learn this knot and said that she is going to “use it on EVERYTHING”!
