Homemade tomato sauce for pizza is new to me. I typically use store bought pizza sauce but I decided to try making my own and wanted to share the recipe.
I am writing this blog post from a my friend’s guest bedroom in South Dakota! My kids are on spring break so I traveled with a friend who lives near me to our friend’s house for Easter. I wanted to put a quick blog post so that my page wasn’t empty all week and I wanted to give you a heads up that I won’t be very active.
Put crushed tomatoes, oregano, Italian seasoning, garlic salt and onion powder in a large stock pot. Simmer the sauce for about 15 minutes while stirring constantly. Since the sauce is very thick it will spatter but the large pot will help keep the mess contained.
Once the sauce is the desired thickness, removed from heat.
I used the pizza sauce to make a Margherita pizza. First I brushed the crust with olive oil and then I topped it with fresh mozzarella and basil.
I decided to put the pizza sauce on the top this time like a New York style pizza but it can go on the bottom as well.
I baked the pizza at 450°F for about 8 minutes.
I also used the sauce to make a pepperoni pizza in the same way. We still had more sauce leftover so I put it in a jar and stored it in the fridge.
