Way back in March, when I was just getting started on my blog, I stuffed these fabric shoelaces in my gunny sack. I decided that now was the time to make some festive ones for Independence Day!
I had this vintage fabric that I purchased from a 94 year old woman’s garage sale. The adorable woman was still living on her own! I cut 2 strips of fabric 2 inches wide and 31 inches long (measure the laces you already have to see how long you need to make yours).
Then, I made 1/2 inch bias tape with the fabric strips.
Not sure how? Check out MADE’s tutorial.
Next, I sewed along the open edge of the bias tape laces.
I cut 4 – 1/2 inch pieces of 1/8 inch heat shrink tubing. I purchased this from my local hardware store from the electrical isle. I bought the multi-pack because I wasn’t sure which size I would need.
Next, I cut the ends into a point.
Then, I had to twist, shove and push the pointy, folded end into the 1/2 inch piece of heat shrink tubing. It seemed like it won’t fit but eventually it did!
Finally, I heat shrunk the plastic tubing. I used my heat gun that I had with my scrapbooking stuff. The tips on the right have been heat shrunk and the ones on the left have not been.
Last step? Lace up the shoes and they are ready for fireworks!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
