Sprinkles Birthday Cup Breakfast Smoothie

Why not start your birthday off with a sprinkles birthday cup and breakfast smoothie? Decorate a coffee cup with sprinkles using oil based paint markers. Then, make a strawberry banana smoothie and top it with whipped cream and sprinkles. Kids would also love to start their birthday off with a special mug and a special smoothie! P.S. My birthday isn’t until autumn. This is just for fun!

Confetti Coffee Cup

Am I the only one who thinks birthdays are so much fun? I don’t usually make a huge deal out of my birthday…unlike one of my friends (you know who you are) who likes to celebrate her birthday month. Big deal or not, it is fun to have a special day to celebrate. Sprinkles and confetti go hand-in-hand with birthdays, so I decided to make a sprinkles birthday cup that can be used all day long. I love this Gold Monogram Mug by The Sweet Escape but I wanted a number instead of a letter.

Stenciled Coffee Cup

First cut the birthday numbers out of masking tape. I did this by printing the number 30 on a piece of paper. (No, I am not 30 and it isn’t even my birthday…it is just the number I decided to use.) I laid a sheet of waxed paper over the numbers and stuck the tape on the waxed paper. I traced the “30” onto the masking tape and then cut it out with a craft knife. You could also use number stickers if you have them available. Then, stick the numbers on the cup. Be sure to firmly seal the tape to the cup so that the paint can’t seep under it.

Use fine point, oil based, paint markers to make random dots that are tightly bunched around the number and then more spread out as you move away from the number. I used pink, gold and silver.

30 written on cup

Once all of the paint “sprinkles” are where you want them to be, remove the masking tape. I didn’t stick my number on tightly enough so some of the paint got underneath the tape. I used my craft knife to carefully scrape it off where is wasn’t supposed to be.

Allow the paint to dry according to the directions on the package. Then, make a breakfast smoothie. Blend together a banana, frozen strawberries, cream, vanilla and protein powder until smooth.

Pour into your cup and top with whipped cream and sprinkles in the same colors as the ones on the cup.

Birthday coffee mug

Enjoy your sprinkles birthday cup and a strawberry banana smoothie. This is a perfect idea for kids birthdays too! Make them a new cup for each year. They can start the day off with what looks like a milkshake, but is packed full of fruit. I plan to hand wash our sprinkles birthday cups, but you can follow the directions provided on the paint marker package.

This mug is so adorable. I’m always worried that they won’t hold up after tons of washings. This one is so stinkin’ adorable, though. Such a great gift, too. I’d be thrilled if you’d link up at this week’s Off the Hook!
