This easy appetizer recipe for Sriracha Chicken Pinwheels using Pillsbury® Crescents is perfect for sharing at parties!
This year rather than having a full holiday dinner, my family is going to have appetizers. There will be about 50 people at the Christmas party so doing appetizers makes things more manageable. Plus, the kids have one goal in mind and that is to open the presents! I wanted to come up with a new appetizer to bring and I decided on Sriracha chicken pinwheels. But before I get into the recipe, I have something exciting to share with you!
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Pillsbury Holiday Bloggers event, with 15 amazing food bloggers, right here in Minnesota at the General Mills World Headquarters. Everything about the experience was incredible, from our lovely host Jess Wangsness, to the meeting all of the bloggers (many of whom I “knew” online already but had never met in person), to the employees we interacted with at Pillsbury. I’ve always been a fan of General Mills products and as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I love using Pillsbury Dough Products like I did in my very first recipe post for Easy Pepperoni Rolls back in March of 2011! After spending the day with Pillsbury, I am impressed with the people behind the products and their enthusiasm for the products they represent.
Our weekend started off with our arrival at the Marriott Minneapolis West. We were taken by shuttle to Figlio in the Shops at West End.for a delicious dinner with much chatting, laughing and getting to know each other. The next morning we rode the shuttle to the General Mills World Headquarters where we started off our day with a tasty breakfast. Then, we split into two groups of eight and headed off to our whirlwind day of fun and learning!
I was in the group that got to start with a 3 hour photography + food styling workshop from some of the pros at General Mills! I mean, SERIOUSLY, how cool is that! Even if you aren’t a photographer at all, you wouldn’t pass up such an amazing opportunity, right? But now pretend that you spend countless hours every.single.week taking photos of food and you can imagine how excited we all were. Since I have so many photos to share with you, I am going to break them up over multiple blog posts. The first album I am sharing is of the prop room at the General Mills World Headquarters. The sheer scope of the food prop choices was jaw dropping. We couldn’t stop oooohhhing and aaaahhhing! After filling our brains with all things food styling and food photography, the entire group met to fill our bellies with a delicious catered lunch. Then, after a quick stop at the company store for a Pillsbury Dough Boy or two, we were split up once again. This time I headed for the kitchen. In the Pillsbury test kitchens, we divided into pairs to make appetizers. The enthusiastic and lovely Jocelyn, from Grandbaby Cakes, was my partner and we had so much making Loaded Potato Pinwheels. This recipe was the million dollar winner from this year’s Pillsbury Bake Off! Here is a tweet that Jocelyn sent me after our fun day:

Each pair of bloggers made a different appetizer. Once we were finished baking, we sampled all of them. After trying these Loaded Potato Pinwheels, I can see why they were the million dollar winner! Now for my Sriracha Chicken Pinwheels recipe:
I used a technique similar to the one we used when making the Loaded Potato Pinwheels. Mix together softened cream cheese, sriracha sauce, sour cream with chives and onions, shredded chicken, shredded cheese, fresh pepper and salt. Unroll the Pillsbury Crescents dinner roll dough without separating individual triangles. Divide the dough down the middle, into two rectangles. Press perforations to seal. Spread about 3/4 cup of the sriracha chicken mixture into the center of the dough within 1/4 of an inch of the long sides. Starting on the long side, tightly roll the dough and pinch seams to seal. Cut into 16 slices.
Place the slices, with the filling side up, on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.
These Sriracha Chicken Pinwheels have just the right amount of heat. They are a delicious appetizer that is easy to make and they are perfect for serving at a party!
- Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
- 4 oz cream cheese 1/2 of the 8 oz package, softened
- 1/4 cup sour cream with chives and onions
- 1 cup cooked shredded chicken (use canned chicken to make things easier)
- 1/4 cup shredded cheese I used a colby & Monterey Jack blend
- 2 tablespoons sriracha chili sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Mix together softened cream cheese, sriracha sauce, sour cream with chives and onions, shredded chicken, shredded cheese, fresh pepper and salt.
- Unroll the Pillsbury Crescents dinner roll dough without separating individual triangles. Divide the dough down the middle, into two rectangles. Press perforations to seal.
