School is out and summer has arrived! Are you worried about how things are going to go this summer? It gets so busy and so messy with the kids home from school all day. They seem to think that the kitchen is a 24 hour diner and since they are on vacation from school, they should be on vacation from house cleaning chores too! I’ve been doing some brainstorming on how to deal with it this summer.
D=Dishwasher L=Laundry F=Family Room
Here are some of my ideas for making life easier:
1) Let it go: This is vacation so maybe I need to relax a little about the chores
2) Assign: Make a chart (above) assigning the kids a chore for each day
3) Bribe: Get a money jar & chore jar so anyone can do an extra chore and get paid
4) Threaten: There will be no ice cream until the chores are done.
5) Hire a cleaning service: With Molly Maid we could head to the lake and come home to a clean house!
I am really liking the sound of that last option…hiring Molly Maid. They are the pros and they get the job done right! Did you realize that Molly Maid even has cleaning tips on their website? I had no idea! Wondering how to clean your windows or the best way to wax wood floors? Molly Maid will tell you how. I’ve been checking out the tips and although I can’t giveaway their tips I can tell you that getting your windows clean has something to do with…glycerin!!
And to make things even easier (as if reading the tips wasn’t easy enough but come on it’s summer and we feel like taking it easy) Molly Maid has page with Molly Maid Cleaning Institute Videos. There are 11 videos that teach how to clean various things!
This video is about what I was talking about above…getting your kids involved! Molly Maid gives some tips on ways to get kids to help out!
Or what about summer and sweaty kids? You know how they run around outside all day, play various sports, go fishing, play with snakes & snake skins and generally get dirty? Molly Maid has videos for how to clean dirty ball caps and how to remove sweat stains from t-shirts! Talk about timely information! When we went junking 2 weeks ago, Vanessa and Zack found 4 ball caps that someone didn’t want anymore. They were in excellent shape so I told them they could get them and we would wash the hats really well. It turns out that we used a similar technique as the one Molly Maid recommends! My husband got home from work and was so disappointed that he didn’t know we were washing ball caps. I learned that he has several that he needs cleaned so we will do those next!
Wondering what you will do with all that free time, now that you’ve gotten your kids to do chores, hired a cleaning service and gotten tips for how to get the cleaning done right? You can spend time at the lake, gardening and one lucky winner will enjoy a “Take Care of You!” gift pack including a nail file, foot pumice scrub, microfiber cleaner, etc! Yes, I am hosting a “Take Care of You!” giveaway!

One of the best ways for me to clean is to do ‘hotspots’ and ‘decluttering’ daily.Each day I declutter a different room. I spend 15 minutes in the room, straightening, throwing out garbage, putting things where they belong, and organizing the messiest area in the room.Also, each day I clean ‘hotspots’ in 2 different rooms. Hotspots are areas in your home that tend to collect clutter….tabletops, counters, shelves, etc. I spend 5 minutes, clearing off and organizing the messiest area in those rooms.For me, when the clutter is under control and I don’t see piles of stuff laying around, I find it much easier to do my other cleaning…it motivates me to get more done in the house.Although I dont follow Flylady to a ‘T’…these are a couple of the helpful tips I learned from her.Thanks for the great giveaway!jackieinmi67@gmail.com

The way I used to wash my boys baseball caps is this. Find a cooking pot that is about the same size as the cap. Turn the pot upside down and place the cap on it. Using some Dawn and a fingernail brush, scrub some of the dirtest spots. Then place the pot with the ballcap still on it, in the top shelf of your dishwasher and run it through complete with your choice of dishwashing soap. Then dishwasher is finished, take the pot/ballcap out, and set on the counter to dry. They always came out very clean.

My favorite cleaning tip is to wipe down your bathroom every morning. The counters, the mirror and a swish in the toilet. It really helps keep it from getting yucky. (This is a Flylady tip…She calls it the “Swish & Swipe”)
