Mix together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center. Pour in the buttermilk, egg, and honey. Stir until combined. Set aside.
Heat oil in a deep fryer (or use a large heavy pot with a thermometer) to 365˚F. Use two spoons to scoop up and carefully drop small amounts of the batter into the hot oil.
Cook for 1 1/2-2 minutes until golden brown.
Serve while warm with ranch dressing. You can keep the hush puppies warm in the oven at a low temperature while cooking additional batches.
