Hushpuppies

Hushpuppies are little golden, deep-fried cornbread nuggets! You can drizzle them in honey or dip them in ranch dressing.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • ¾ cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoon honey
  • peanut oil for frying

Instructions

  • Mix together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center. Pour in the buttermilk, egg, and honey. Stir until combined. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer (or use a large heavy pot with a thermometer) to 365˚F. Use two spoons to scoop up and carefully drop small amounts of the batter into the hot oil.
  • Cook for 1 1/2-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve while warm with ranch dressing. You can keep the hush puppies warm in the oven at a low temperature while cooking additional batches.
