Adorable Gone Fishing Mason Jar gifts are filled with fishing gear and snacks. These jars could also be given as fun party favors.

Today is National Go Fishing Day! Although my kids don’t eat fish, they love going to a lake to fish off the dock. If they do catch any fish, they let them go.

Fishing is more about spending quiet time by the water than it is about catching fish. When we went camping last weekend, they were hoping to be able to do a little fishing with their friends.

Our camping trip was cut short due to the rain, so they will have to fish another time. To celebrate National Go Fishing Day, I made some Gone Fishing Mason Jars as summer mason jar gifts for my kids.

How To Make Gone Fishing Mason Jars

    Stick fishing pole.

Step One: How To Make A Mini Fishing Pole

Start by making a mini fishing pole to decorate the jar.

Find a small twig from in your yard and remove any twigs that branch off or any leaves attached to it.

Cut a length of twine that is about the same size as the twig. Glue the piece of twine to one end of the twig wrapping it around a couple of times.

Then, cut out two fish shapes from felt. Glue the felt fish to the other end of the twine so that the twine is sandwiched between the fish.

Finish the mini fishing pole off by attaching a red and white bobber to the twine “fishing string”.

Step Two: Fishing Supplies For The Jar

Next, gather some basic fishing supplies to put into the jar. The items you put in the jar depend upon the age of the person receiving the jar and the type of fishing they do.

My kids fish off a dock in a lake and are concerned more about catching anything at all on the line than they are about what they catch.

I added a small baggie of Goldfish, a granola bar, a mini bottle of hand sanitizer, a couple of fishing hooks, weights, a fishing line, string, a few bobbers, and a pocket knife.

    Top with weights and hooks.

Step Three: Assemble The Mason Jar Gift

For this Gone Fishing Mason Jar, I used this blue tinted mason jar because it reminds me of blue water.

After the fishing supplies have been gathered, carefully fit all of the items in the jar like a puzzle, rearranging as necessary. I like to add the items so that as many of them as possible are facing the outside of the jar. That way, you can see what is in the jar from the outside.

    Hot glue pole to jar.

Finish off the mason jar by hot gluing the mini fishing pole to the front of the mason jar.

Put a piece of paper tape over the fishing pole where you hot glued it to the jar to give it an extra pop of color! These gone fishing mason jars can be given to your kids when they go fishing, or they could be used as party favors for a fish-themed party.

This is super cute. I might steal this idea for one of my date nights. It would be cute to use for a fishing date with the man 🙂
