When I made the mini conversation heart cookies, I knew that I needed an easy icing recipe that I could use to quickly decorate lots of small cookies. This glace icing is perfect for doing just that.

Put the powered sugar, half-n-half, light corn syrup, and clear vanilla flavoring in a bowl.

Is glace icing made with milk, half-n-half, or heavy cream?

You can use either milk, half-n-half, heavy cream, or even water to make glace icing. Since milk and water are the thinnest, you will need less than you would if using heavy cream. And the opposite is true, if you use heavy cream, you will need to use a bit more.

Use a mixer or a whisk to stir the glaze icing until smooth.

How can I flavor glace icing?

For this recipe, I used vanilla as the flavoring but other extracts or flavorings could be used instead of the vanilla. Try using almond, coconut, maple, banana, or peppermint extract, depending on how you plan to use the icing.

Another option for making flavored glazes is to substitute the half-n-half with another liquid. For lemon glaze, use lemon juice instead of half-n-half. If you want an orange flavor, substitute orange juice.

drizzle of glaze icing

If your glace icing is too thick, stir in more half-n-half a teaspoon at a time, until it reaches the consistency you desire.

On the other hand, if it is too thin, you can add more powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right consistency.

What is the best way to tint powdered sugar icing?

I always use gel paste food coloring to tint icing and frosting. Gel food coloring adds intense color without changing the consistency of icings and frostings. Tinted glace icing is perfect for frosting sugar cookies during the holidays. Check out my mini conversation heart cookies and sugar cookie icing guide for lots of tips and ideas!
