This cereal bar recipe is easy to make with cereal, peanut butter, and honey. They can be eaten as an after school snack or a quick on-the-go breakfast.

Greek Yogurt Honey Bunches of Oats
I love eating cold cereal and so does my family. We eat many different kinds of cereal from the sweetened varieties to the plain Jane varieties. We eat cereal in the traditional way with milk, from a plastic baggie in the car when we run out of time in the morning, with yogurt and in cereal bars.

There are times when my kids don’t have time for a bowl of cereal in the morning because they suddenly realized they have a sheet of homework they need to complete or they take too long in the shower.

Cereal bars are great for on-the-go breakfasts or for an after-school snack. So, to make the cereal bars, I put honey, crunchy peanut butter, brown sugar, and butter in a saucepan and brought it to a boil.

Then, I mixed in the vanilla and cereal and pressed the mixture into a foil lined pan.

My kids really liked the cereal bars saying, “Hmmm…these are so good!” I like how easy they were to make and I didn’t even have to turn my oven on!

I was really excited to try this. After I made it though, I found it was way too sweet. I wonder if the brown sugar is necessary.

Did you like it? I just made it and found it unnecessarily sweet. What’s with the brown sugar?

The brown sugar helps the bars retain their shape and holds them together. It also adds flavor and moisture. If you look at the ingredients in store bought granola bars you will see that they contain corn syrup and some kind of sugar. We chose honey instead of corn syrup in these bars. The type of cereal you choose can also add to the sweetness.

I don’t feel that the recipe deserves your one star rating because you didn’t like how sweet it is. Did the recipe work? Were you able to follow the instructions? Thank you for visiting our website and for trying the recipe. I’m sorry that it wasn’t what you were looking for.

Hello! Seems like a great recipe. I would like to add in fresh or dried dates. Any suggestions on how to modify the amount of ingredients to accommodate for the dates?

If you want to simply add dates to the bars, I would suggest substituting chopped dates for some of the cereal. But if you want to use dates for some of the sweetener, I’ve never made bars that way so I’m not sure how that would work.

Any cereal but most preferred would be honey bunches, honey nut cheerios, or regular cheerios.

Hello I literally just finished making this. I could only find a 8 by 9 inch pan so I had to make two batches to fill up the pan. Also for anybody asking yes you put it in the fridge or freezer to set it.

        Hello Gus,

These cereal bars don’t need to go in the oven. Just heat the honey, brown sugar, peanut butter, and butter in a saucepan, stir in the cereal and press into the pan!

        Enjoy!

I noticed that it doesn’t say how long to allow for cooling/setting. Is there a preferred time period?

I noticed the same thing. If you do this on a hot summer day and set it in a warm kitchen, it will be runny all day. I put mine in the fridge. Complete instructions would have been nice.

John R Willis, snotty comment not necessary. Amazing bars with an obvious, easy recipe. Shouldn’t take a lot of intelligence to realize you’d have to chill peanut butter and honey to set it. Complete brain would have been nice.

Fiona- This response was rude and unnecessary. He was merely stating that additional directions would’ve been appreciated. I am a very seasoned cook and I was also asking myself should I store these in the fridge. You slammed him for a snotty response. Your response was 10 times worse.

I wonder if they will come out okay without the sugar? I’m pregnant and hypoglycemic and am always on the lookout for healthy snacks while I’m teaching but I really don’t want extra sweetness. The honey, peanutbutter, and cereal is sweet enough for me!

I do it without honey and add only a bit of sugar (10-15ish grams) and it comes out good. But then again, I don’t like sugar all that much, so maybe it’s just me xD
