Gifts in a jar are perfect for giving homemade Christmas gifts. This Peppermint Pampering Jar is filled with items like body butter, foot, and sugar scrub.

    Peppermint pampering mason jar gift.

Giving homemade Christmas gifts is so affordable! This Christmas, I am giving gifts in a jar with a Peppermint Pampering theme. It is filled with homemade peppermint spa products and peppermint treats. If you want to make your own spa products, the recipes are below. If not, you can buy small-sized bottles of similar spa products to put in the jars. Or buy large bottles and divide them into small containers.

In This Post: Everything You Need To Make Peppermint Pampering Gifts In A Jar

    • Peppermint Body Butter
    • Peppermint Sugar Scrub
    • Peppermint Foot Soak
    • Peppermint Pampering Labels
    Mini plastic containers.

I started with lots of these small containers from Family Dollar and spray-painted the lids red. Be sure to use spray paint that is specially formulated for plastics. I used Krylon Fusion For Plastic in Pepper Red Gloss to paint these lids. Don’t worry if you can’t find these exact containers. Try looking for small plastic containers in the bead aisle at a craft store or in the food storage aisle of a large retailer like Walmart or Target.

Supplies for making peppermint body butter.

To make the peppermint body butter, I used one Net Wt 7.5 oz jar of Vaseline Cocoa Butter petroleum jelly, three 8 fl. oz bottles of Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint body lotion (bought them on sale) and two Net Wt. 4 oz jars of Studio 35 Vitamin E cream.

Whipping body butter with a stand mixer.

Put all of the ingredients into the mixer bowl and add drops of red food coloring, 5 teaspoons peppermint extract and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Whip everything together.

Peppermint body butter in small containers.

Fill up as many small containers as you need and put the rest into large containers. This recipe makes 48 oz of lotion. If you don’t need that much, cut the recipe in half.

    Peppermint Body Butter

Sugar scrub ingredients in a bowl.

To make the peppermint sugar scrub, put 1/2 cup of fractionated coconut oil in a large bowl.

Add 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, 2-3 teaspoons peppermint extract, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 drops of red food coloring (if desired).

Mix everything until the color is evenly distributed.

Fill containers with the sugar scrub.

    Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Whisking peppermint foot soak in a bowl.

Next, I made some peppermint foot soak by mixing together 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 2 teaspoons peppermint extract and 2 drops of red food coloring. Use a whisk to mix well. The extract made the mix a little wet so I poured it onto a piece of parchment paper and let it dry for 1/2 an hour.

Put 2 tablespoons of peppermint foot soak into each container. When ready to use the foot soak, pour the entire contents of the small foot soak container into a basin of warm water.

Print, cut out and glue the labels onto the containers. You can print the FREE labels below.

Put a piece of candy cane washi tape across the top of the containers.

    Peppermint pampering jar supplies.

Here is everything I put into my peppermint pampering mason jar: Ghiradelli Mint Chocolate, a peppermint hot cocoa packet, a red manicure set, candy cane Chapstick, and peppermint candy. I used a Kerr one quart (32 oz) wide-mouth mason jar.

Add a candy cane to the top.

Carefully add everything to the jar so that it all fits.

Add a snowflake to the top of the jar.

Put a piece of candy cane-striped Washi tape around the lid and add a snowflake to the top. I bought a pack of these snowflakes in the dollar section at Target.

I am making a ton of these gifts in a jar to give away this Christmas! I’ve got a head start and now I just need to be sure to finish them!

    Peppermint Pampering Printable Labels

To make the peppermint pampering labels, open the files you want and download the pdf to your computer. Each pdf is a full sheet of one kind of labels. Print the labels onto paper using your printer and cut out each label. Glue the labels to the containers. Or you can print the labels onto full sheet label sticker paper and cut each label out. Then, peel off the backing and attach the labels to the containers.

    • Fill containers with the body butter. This recipe makes 48 oz of lotion.

    • Add a strip of washi tape across the top.

    Peppermint Sugar Scrub

    • Put the fractionated coconut oil into a large bowl.

Thanks so much for sharing this idea, it was incredibly helpful and inspiring! I’m currently making some for Christmas gifts, but I’m adding in a soap which I’d also like to label. I was just wondering what the font you used for your labels is?

I want you to know that this is incredible. I was able to find everything to put into my jars at local stores or in my cabinets. I omitted the food coloring for fear of staining. This was the perfect gift. Thanks for sharing.

I have already given some of mine to co-workers & friends (the rest to go family on Christmas)… EVERYONE loves them… the scent of the body butter is light and feels wonderful on their skin and I have a lot of friends who work on their feet so they are looking forward to the foot soak!

I totally agree! I’ve been using the body butter daily. I actually had to buy more supplies to make more of it for the gifts because I keep using what I’ve made!

        Hi Dhara,
It depends on the size of the containers you are using.
Peppermint Body Butter makes 48 oz
Peppermint Sugar Scrub makes 16 oz
Peppermint Foot Soak makes enough for 2 tablespoons each in 10 containers.
Best of luck and Merry Christmas!

Hi, can you share where you found the manicure set? I apologize if you did and I missed it. I would love to make these but am having an awful time locating a manicure set in an appropriate color and budget friendly. The ones I am finding online and in stores at at a high price point. Thank you!

Great work! How much did everything cost all together? I assume you made large batches for several mason jars. And, how long do these keep? I would hate to see them spoil. Thanks!

        Hi Diana,
I didn’t add up the total cost. It would vary depending on where you buy your products, if you are able to find them on sale and what size containers you use. If you use the Studio 35 vitamin E cream from Walgreens, it is $7.29 per bottle but if you buy Fruit of the Earth vitamin E cream from Walmart, it is only $3.67 for a 2 pack! I’m not sure how long they will keep, I made these on November 12 and will be giving them as Christmas gifts. The lotion made more than enough for the jars I am giving. I might need to make more of the sugar scrub because my teen has been using the stuff I already made. And I might have to make another batch of the foot soak. Have fun making them!

Just found your website, will defiantly look through it. I’ve actually made a bunch of my body gifts already but have been just stuck on the containers to put them in as most are more than the gift themselves! Can you tell me about how many ounces the family dollar containers hold? It’s hard to tell from the pics. I’m guessing 3-4 oz?

        Hi Erin,
Good for you! The containers can be hard. The ones that I used are 2.4 oz. I would suggest looking in the bead storage aisle at a craft store. Another idea is to look for Diamond Daily Mini Cups from Target or Walmart. They aren’t as sturdy as the ones I used but they hold 2 oz and one package has 50 cups in it for around $3.00. You can see them in my Princess Putty post: http://www.thegunnysack.com/2013/07/how-to-make-princess-putty.html

I’m adding a small handmade peppermint soap to my gift jars! I found a lady in a small nearby Texas town that makes wonderful soaps in various fragrances… she makes big bars and then small ‘guest’ hand soaps… she’s getting a big order from me for her Peppermint Tea Tree guest soaps!!! Although her ‘Mint Mud’ sounds interesting… might have to order a big bar of that for me 😉 Thanks Tonia for sharing your wonderful ideas!!

I saw you used Bath and Body works peppermint body lotion. Is there something I could substitute for that? I don’t have a bath and body works near me. Thanks!!

        Hi Tina,
For sure! You can use any lotion you want. I didn’t find another peppermint scented lotion that I liked the smell of so I went with Bath and Body Works. You can find any peppermint lotion you like and use it in equal amounts. Otherwise, you can make a lotion with a different scent. Here is basically the same recipe but I made coconut body butter instead: http://www.thegunnysack.com/2013/04/coconut-body-butter-recipe-a-gift-in-a-jar.html
