Last weekend was the first day of autumn and that calls for a special treat. This caramel apple is super cute, but the best part is that that caramel apple can be made in the jar!

How to Make A Caramel Apple In A Jar

An apple and some candies on a wooden tabletop.

To assemble the jars, gather mini M&M’s, wrapped caramels, jars, baker’s twine, lollipop sticks, and small apples.

A hand is pouring candy from a measuring cup into a glass jar.

Dump the mini M&M’s into the jar.

Wrapped caramels in a jar of M&M's.

    Top with 12 wrapped caramels.

An apple with leaves attached sitting on top of a glass jar with candy inside.

Add the lid, top with the apple, and tie on some twine. Add a lollipop stick and the printed recipe, if desired.

Mini M&M's, caramels in a jar, an apple and a teaspoon of water.

To make the caramel apple in the jar, remove the mini M&M’s and place them in the lid. Unwrap the caramels and put them back into the jar. Add 1 teaspoon of water to the jar and put it in the microwave for 60 seconds at 50% power.

Stir and microwave for another 15-30 seconds at 50% power and stir until smooth. Be sure to watch very carefully. (Unfortunately, I know from experience that cooking it too long will cause the caramel to boil over and burn!) Put a lollipop stick into the washed and dried apple.

An apple on a stick dipped into melted caramel in a jar.

Put the apple into the caramel in the jar. Use a knife to spread additional caramel over the entire apple.

A caramel apple dipped into candies in a jar lid.

Dip and roll the caramel apple into the mini M&M’s.

A caramel apple with M&Ms candy covering it.

Fill in any empty places by adding M&M’s with your fingers. Gently press mini M&M’s into the caramel and set it on a piece of parchment paper.

Caramel Apple In A Mason Jar

These would be so fun to make for a fall party to give as party favors!

    Frequently Asked Questions

What size jars do I need?

I used Kerr Half-Pint Wid Mouth mason jars. They are big enough to hold the caramels and M&M’s. Plus, they have a wide mouth so that the small apples will fit.

Where did you get small apples?

I got these apples from my mom’s tree and I love that there are still a couple of leaves attached. Small apples are often easy to find in the fall. If you can’t find small enough ones, melt the caramel in a bowl instead of the jar.

The caramels that I bought for this post were already wrapped like these Kraft Caramels: http://www.kraftbrands.com/caramels/products/default.aspx
Best of luck with the jars!

Best party favor!! Didn’t want another bag filled with just candy or plastic junk, which I must admit I tend to throw out those goodie bags. Just adorable!!!

      Hi Tonia,

I stumbled across your site today and I am so glad I did. You have some wonderful ideas! I had a question about the jar size you note for this recipe. In the recipe you reference the Ball 8 oz jars. But they look like the Ball 4 oz jars. Could you please confirm? I plan to give these as thank you gifts to the guest of my daughter’s 13th Bday party. Great parting gift for any age birthday, don’t you think? Thanks again 🙂

        Hi Sandra,
I’m delighted that you found my site! They are Kerr 8 oz jars. Even though I used small apples from my mom’s tree, I had to use the 8 oz wide mouth jar. It is the size of a 1 cup measuring cup. These are the ones I used: http://www.freshpreservingstore.com/kerr-half-pint-8-oz-wide-mouth-jars-set-of-12/shop/383255/
        Enjoy the party!
