This fun Earth Day Oreo Truffles recipe makes bite-sized treats that look like the earth when you bite into them! It’s a delicious dessert for Earth Day.

    Earth Day Oreo Truffles

Earth Day is only a couple of weeks away and it’s a good reminder to think about how amazing the earth is and about how it supports life. Talk to your kids about what things you can do as a family to reduce, reuse and recycle even more than you have been.

I was raised in a family where these things were just a way of life. We bought secondhand clothes before it was trendy to do so. We didn’t waste food and my mom had a small garden when she could. It’s easy to make small changes which can, in turn, make a big impact.

How To Make Earth Day Oreo Truffles

    Golden Oreos

    Step One: Oreos

Crush enough Oreos to get three and a half cups of crushed Oreos.

It takes about thirty-six Golden Oreos. Crush the whole Oreos, filling and all. I used my food processor, and I crushed half of the cookies at a time.

    Golden Oreo Truffles mixture

    Step Two: Mixer

Mix together the crushed Oreos and eight ounces of softened cream cheese.

I used my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer but you could also mix them in your food processor if it is large enough.

Blue and Green Truffles mixture in bowls

    Step Three: Food Coloring

Divide the mixture into two bowls. Tint one blue and the other green.

I used Wilton gel paste in Kelly Green and Royal Blue because I love the vibrant colors you get.

    Step Four: Form Earth Balls

Grab several small bits of each color and roll the bits into one ball about one inch wide.

    dip truffles in melted chocolate

    Step Five: Dip In Chocolate

Place the Oreo balls in the freezer for about 15 minutes to get firm. Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave according to the instructions on the package. I used Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers.

Dip the Oreo balls in the melted chocolate and set on parchment paper. Re-melt the chocolate as needed.

If you have a hard time dipping truffles, go slowly, keep the truffles chilled before dipping, and the chocolate smooth and melted. I also used my Wilton Chocolate Dipping Tools.

    Step Six: Decorate

Once the chocolate is set, drizzle with melted candy melts. Warm the candy melts in the microwave and stir until smooth.

Put the melted candy melts in disposable pastry bags and snip off a tiny bit of the tip. Drizzled the candy melts on the truffles.

The colorful drizzles look pretty, and they help cover any imperfections in the chocolate coating.

Everyone will love the colorful surprise they get when they bite into these truffles! They look like the blue and green earth from outer space, and they are so delicious.

I made a double batch of these for our Bingo night at our local Elks club and I got 61 from it. Most were about the inch sized balls but some were a bit larger than that but 60-65 would be a good approximation
