    sun down water fight
We recently had the perfect opportunity to enjoy some summer fun with our friends!  We invited them over last minute for the evening and since it was hot outside we decided to make the most of it!  What are the most important ingredients for summer fun?

    Sun
    Water
    Friends
    Food

    pink floral paper products
Our friends were on their way to our house, the sun was out and we have plenty of water but we had to go shopping for some supplies and food.  Vanessa picked out cheerful pink plates, cups and napkins.  I am pretty sure if Zack was along he would not have okayed her choice!

    ice cream treats at store
For dinner we picked up Tombstone pizza!  Who wants to take time away from a fun summer evening with friends to cook a big meal?  Pizza is the perfect solution…it’s easy and everyone loves it!  When you talk about summer food, ice cream MUST be included!  Nestle Drumsticks are one of the classic summer treats.  We bought a pack of the Cookie Dipped cones (we haven’t tried this flavor yet) and a box of the Vanilla Caramel with nuts.

    filled shopping cart at store
We piled a bunch of summer fun items into our cart and rushed out the door.  Thankfully, we made it home before our friends arrived!  You can see more of our shopping trip to Walmart in my Google+ album.

    water balloons in bucket
Back at home, I sprayed the yard with Cutter Backyard Bug Control fogger so that the mosquitoes would leave us alone.  Then, I filled water balloons with some help from a little friend while the bigger kids had a water fight with squirt guns.  I love that the packs of water balloon come with a small hose attachment for making it easier to fill the balloons!  I *might* have gotten a little involved with some help from the hose!  Once the balloons were filled, the kids used them up in a flash!
kids on a slip and slide
Then, we set up the Slip ‘n Slide!  It was great fun although the water was freezing.  Our backyard is pretty flat so next time we will have to try it our front yard.  And no I did not get involved in this activity…one of my blogging friends just broke a rib while using a Slid ‘n Slide with her kids!!

pizza and watermelon a paper plate
We had Tombstone pizza, watermelon and iced tea for dinner.  I cut the watermelon into small pieces and put it into small paper cups.  It is easier to eat and less messy this way…but maybe not quite as much fun!

    boys on front porch
The boys ate out on the front porch.  By this time it was starting to get dark already!

    sparklers
What kid doesn’t just love sparkles?  They are so pretty and so much fun!  We made sure that the kids had plenty of room to safely use their sparkles away from the other kids.

    fireworks
Then, my husband lit off some fireworks while we all watched.   Only the smallest fireworks are available in Minnesota but they are still fun to watch.

    kids eating drumsticks
To end the fun summer evening, we enjoyed out Nestle Drumsticks!  The kids thought the Cookie Dipped ones were delicious.  Vanessa enjoyed the caramel filling (or is that chocolate) in her cone and I love the chocolate at the bottom of the cone!!
