Easy Pepperoni Rolls

Easy pepperoni pizza rolls are a great appetizer! Whether you make these pizza balls with biscuits or crescent rolls they are sure to be a family favorite. Moms like them because they are easy to make and kids will like them because they are bite sized pizzas!

Easy Pepperoni Pizza Balls Rolls

Every time I make Easy Pepperoni Rolls I get rave reviews They are super easy to make and are a great snack or appetizer. These pizza balls are Pillsbury biscuits filled with pepperoni and cheese.

The Gunny Sack Pizza Balls

3 cans Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (10 biscuits per can)
56 pepperoni slices
Block of cheese (I use Colby & Monterey Jack)
1 beaten egg
Italian seasoning
Garlic powder
1 jar pizza sauce

Cheese for Pizza Balls
Cut the block of cheese into at least 28 squares.

Pepperoni for Pizza Balls
Flatten a biscuit out and stack pepperoni and cheese on top.

How To Make Pizza Balls
Gather up the edges of the biscuit.

Pizza Balls Bundle
Now you have a cute little bundle.

Pepperoni Pizza Rolls
Line the rolls up (seam side down) in a greased 9×13 in. pan.  Brush with beaten egg.  Sprinkle with Parmesan, Italian seasoning and garlic powder.  Bake at 425°F for 18-20 minutes.

Pizza Rolls Balls
Serve the rolls with warm pizza sauce for dipping.  This recipe is adapted from one I received from my sister Tracy.
**There are been a couple of questions about freezing/reheating these pepperoni rolls.  I’ve never tried it but I would love to hear if it works for you!

  • 3 cans Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (10 biscuits per can)
  • 56 pepperoni slices
  • Block of cheese (I use Colby & Monterey Jack)
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Parmesan
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • 1 jar pizza sauce
  1. Cut the block of cheese into at least 28 squares.
  2. Flatten a biscuit out and stack pepperoni and cheese on top.
  3. Gather up the edges of the biscuit.
  4. Line the rolls up (seam side down) in a greased 9×13 in. pan.
  5. Brush with beaten egg.
  6. Sprinkle with Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  7. Bake at 425°F for 18-20 minutes.
  8. Serve the rolls with warm pizza sauce for dipping.

    These are quick and easy for a quick snack or lunch. The only complaint I have, is the amount of time. I set timer for 18 minutes and they were just on the edge of being burnt. I will lower the temp next time to perhaps 400 and check it after 16 min the next time. Otherwise, good.

    Im going to take this to a potluck, thinking of making them a hr. before i leave for work. Well it hold up good, or do u think i should try something else. Can they sit at room tempeture for 2 hr. any suggestions would help.

      I think they will hold up for that amount of time but with the cheese inside them, I’m not sure they should sit at room temp for two hours.

    These taste great and are so very easy to make. I didn’t brush the tops or use the sprinkle-on mix — just too lazy. When I make them again, I will:
    1. Buy only a 5-biscuit tube and divide each biscuit in half because whole ones are too big for me. I think they’d make great, small hors d’oeuvres. Might even consider dividing the biscuits into quarters;
    2. I will pinch them shut more carefully and maybe try baking them pinched side up like a Chinese dumpling. Even though I placed them far apart on non-stick foil on my cookie sheet, the cheese melted out of a few and ran into the others (totally my fault);
    3. For those who asked about freezing : I put five in the freezer just now for my lunches later. Will let you know how that works out!

    Just made these today and they are super yummy! Actually stuffed them with pepperoni and a 1/2 small meatball with mozz cheese. It is just my husband and I so I used a can of the grands and cut eat one in half so the pan made 16 pizza rolls.

    Made these last night for my pizza fans at home. Used 2 pepperoni slices on the bottom and one on top. Used shredded parm on the top at the beginning. At 20 mins the rolls were done but the tops were more well done than we would have liked. Next time we are thinking wait 5 or 10 mins and then put the parm on top. We did add quite a bit of it, though. Also considering trying mozzarella cheese stick chunks instead of the colby jack for the stringyness.

    But overall, fantastic!! A full pan and the 3 of us were stuffed, although they were so tasty, we could have eaten another pan of them! Thanks!

      Yes, but dark metal pans tend to cook a little faster so check on the pepperoni rolls to see if they are done. Enjoy! ~Tonia

    Just made these for my boyfriend and I tonight! We were craving pizza and I thought it would be something fun and easy we could put together! I chose to use fresh Mozzarella and Munster cheese in mine, and it was PHENOMENAL!!! Great recipe, and thanks for sharing!!!

    These turned out great! Because I wanted to pack these as part of my lunch when I work, I chose to put the sauce inside, Some of the sauce leaked out when it was cooking but overall it turned out great, I also chose to use real garlic I minced and put on top before putting in the oven.

    *SO* glad I found the original post of this! I had seen it on Facebook but the version I had saved showed pizza sauce in the ingredients but it was not listed in the directions. What to do with the sauce??? So happy to find the correct version! I am a high school cooking teacher AND a former caterer (closed my business to go back to school to be a teacher at the age of 50!) and incorrectly written recipes are a BIG peeve of mine. I actually give my students bad recipes and we play “What’s Wrong With This Recipe?” So again, thank you thank you thank you …… I am VERY happy to have found the original and correct recipe! My kids will be making it this month in class!!

    These are awesome! I just reheated some that I had frozen for over a month and they were just as good as the first time! I’d suggest baking at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

    I made these just as directed and they are delicious! I’ve tried pepper jack cheese to add a little extra flavor (not that it was needed) and that was great too! I did freeze them without a problem. Defrosted and reheated in the toaster oven for about 5 minutes at 350. Be careful to watch them though because I burned the first batch in the toaster oven reheating because I walked away. Definitely try these!

        No, Pillsbury dough does not hold up well. It is formulated to be baked right after you open the tube of dough. That being said, you could bake them ahead of time and then reheat the pepperoni rolls before serving, but they will be soggier than they would be if they were prepared fresh. Best of luck! ~Tonia

    I just wanted to tell you that this recipe is just amazing and so easy to make, my 13 year old boy learned how to make these yummy pizza rolls he said that they are way better than the frozen ones, he also said he will never eat the frozen ones again. It makes me feel good that he can just whip these up and throw them in the oven as an after school snack.

    I dont usually comment on recipes but i HAD to for this one!! Just made these for my husband’s birthday. i didn’t use the canned dough (just bc i didnt want to go buy some lol) i used this recipe http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/italian-herb-bread and made the dough in my bread machine for a no hassle dinner! the dough only made 18 but with just the 3 of us we didn’t need 28. I also brushed them with garlic butter after baking instead of the egg wash before. i will be making these at least once a month from now on!!! very very nummy!!!!!!!

    I tried these last night for a get together….HUGE hit even though I forgot to put the toppings on. I made 80 of them and found that the timing was too long….I did flip the pan midway through but maybe it was because I used a dark baking pan instead of a glass one that the timing seemed too long? At any rate, they’re a staple in our house now/

    Love this recipe! Very quick and easy. I use string mozzarella cheese and cut into 4ths and would roll out the pizza dough as fatten out as muchas possible then cUT a nice square and place 2-3 pepperoni then a piece of cheese and stretch and roll into a ball. Makes for it to be less doughy . I also used butter and seasoning as the topping before baking. It passed my 1 1/2 year old and my brother who is a crazy about pizza loves them. In fact he request me to make a bunch of these for his wedding; so that’s gotta tell u something right there.

    would like to make theses but adjust such as putting some pizza sauce inside with the chz and pepp. how different do u think they would be and how should I adjust the cooking time?

      I did this! I found that the cooking time was MUCH longer, actually. These were delicious, but the dough took forever because of the extra moisture from the sauce. Next time, I will bake for 15 minutes uncovered, then cover and bake for 15-20 minutes more. They’re perfect for my toddler daughter to “help” make, so I don’t mind the extra baking time, and the sauce added a nice kick.

    i make these all the time and my recipe is much better simple and cheap you get cheese sticks pepporoni and cressont rolls then roll them together bake them at 350 and they stuff you up!

    My daughter makes these by the tons. She brushes them with melted butter instead of the egg and after they have cooled, she freezes them. When they have company or the kids want a snack, she pulls em out and pops some in the microwave. They love em and it works for her family great!!

    I couldn’t have found this recipe at a better time! I volunteer with a dog rescue group, and tomorrow I have folks meeting at my house to drop off and pick up a dog that’s moving from foster care into her forever home. As it’s a three hour drive (one way) for both parties, I wanted to be able to offer them some kind of snack, either to eat here, or take on the road. These will be perfect!     I have been low on ingredients and have just moistened the top of the biscuits with water and used the cheese and seasoning and it came out just as good. Also, if you run out of block cheese I’ve sliced up string cheese. It’s not as easy to roll up but it tastes pretty good still. 🙂 I love this recipe, my husband is a pizza-aholic and this is great for him. I’ve made 20 at a time and used an 8×8 pan, and that worked out pretty well too. Love, love, LOVE this site!

I checked the Pillsbury site and it says not to freeze uncooked dough…any help would be appreciated, thank you!

      Sorry Cathy, I am unable to reply via email because that option isn’t enabled in your profile so hopefully you will see my reply here. I’ve never tried freezing these pepperoni rolls. If I were going to, I would bake them first and then freeze them. To warm them back up, I would let them thaw on the counter while I preheated the oven and then bake them until heater through. But…I don’t know if that will work! It sounds like lots of people have the same question so I am going to try it many different ways and then do a blog post with the results!

    Loved this idea. I made them for the Super Bowl today! Switched it up a bit though. Put a half a teaspoon of pizza sauce inside and used mozzarella instead of colby jack. 🙂 In a few I added some mustard and no pizza sauce and made mini strombolis. 🙂 Thanks for the great idea!

    I have made these two times and everyone loved them!! The second time I prepared them, I made them a little different. I sprinkled the biscuits with seasonings prior to adding the cheese and pepperoni (so the seasoning was inside, and packed flavor in every bite, and not just on top). I also cut the biscuits in half so they were smaller. I also made them the night before and covered them and put them in the fridge so I could bake them the next day. When I was ready to bake them, I sprayed Pam non stick butter on top, and found it worked just as well as egg, then added the cheese and baked according to the directions.

    Since I’m totally dependent on knowing exact amounts of everything (isn’t OCD lovely? :-))…
    can I ask what you mean specifically in regards to a “block” of cheese? They vary in size, so I’d like to know what size you used, etc.

      The blocks of cheese I purchased were just the 8 oz size blocks of cheese. I cut them into small cubes probably 1/2 inch cubes. Truly is doesn’t matter what size, as you can see in the picture they are all different sizes…sorry I know that doesn’t help your OCD 🙂 You can even use shredded cheese if you want but I think it is harder to pinch the dough around shredded cheese.

    Made these tonight and loved them. Used 1 can of Grands biscuits. Cut them in half and formed them into circles. Turned out great. Did not have canned pizza sauce so used jarred spaghetti sauce. Will definitey make them again and try some of the other suggestions–bbq chicken, little smokies, taco filling.

    I used your idea tonight and made breakfast ones. I added scrambled eggs, sausage and shredded cheddar cheese. I brushed butter on top and added Romano cheese. Turned out awesome. My pregnant friend was especially happy with her late night special delivery snack lol. My fiance and 2 friends that were here loved them too 🙂 I made a bunch and am going to try to freeze them for my kids for a quick before school breakfast!     Ok..here is my idea: Take two tubes of pizza dough, spread out one on a cookie sheet. Add scrambled eggs, ham or bacon or sausage and cheese. Place another pizza dough on top and pinch the sides. I think if it works it would be less time consuming for breakfast. I like your idea for finger snacks but for breakfast I think this might work.

    Since 3 cans of dough have 30 biscuits each, wouldn’t you need at least 60 pieces of pepperoni and 30 pieces cheese? These look great, though. I am adding them to my recipe box!

      You are a smart cookie! Yes if 3 cans of dough have 10 biscuits each that would make 30 biscuits total! But I only used 28 of the biscuit so that they would fit in the pan (4 rows of 7). The great thing is that you can make them in what every manner works best for you!

    I used crumbled cooked sausage and scrambled eggs with minced onions and mozzarella cheese for the filling and it is delicious.I didn’t place them so close together and I buttered the tops after they were done baking. I also flattened one and put the filling on top then used another flattened one to cover and pinched the sides together.

    I didn’t want to use three cans of biscuits. I only used one and cut eat biscuit in half to make 16 rolls. Just use a spoon to flatten and make into a circle. They are less doughy this way too.

    Just made these with pepperoni and pepper jack cheese, pepperoni and mozzerella cheese, and ham and both types of cheese and they turned out fantastic.     I make these using frozen bread dough! Try turn out great. I usually use a muffin tin to keep them sperated and freezing/ reheat is possible just make sure you I thaw them. Then stick them in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds.

      I love that idea of using a muffin tin! I was trying to think of a way to keep them separated during cooking so they wouldn’t be doughy on the sides and this solved my problem!

    Wow, simple, easy and I’m sure delicious. My g’son loves pizza rolls, and as you all know, they’re not cheap. I will make up a batch of these soon adding pizza/marinara sauce to the pepperoni/cheese before mending the dough and will attempt to freeze them for future baking. Of course, extra pizza/marina sauce can be used for dipping as well. I have bookmarked the recipe for future reference. And, I may try other variations in the future. Thanks.

    You could freeze them (sans toppings) individually on a baking sheet. Once frozen put into a freezer bag. When you want to cook them, place as many as you’d like on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg and add toppings, bake as required.

    You could freeze them (sans toppings) individually on a baking sheet. Once frozen put into a freezer bag. When you want to cook them, place as many as you’d like on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg and add toppings, bake as required.

    We’ve done something similar and spread pizza/marinara sauce on the bread before adding other ingredients. We usually use grated cheese but a small block sounds delicious! We’ve also tried ham and cheese and they’re quite tasty too. Thanks for sharing!

    Can you freeze these and reheat later? They look delicious for a snack, but unless we are hosting a football party, I’m pretty sure we couldn’t (or at least wouldn’t want to) eat 30 in one go 🙂

      I agree! There’s no way I’d ever want to make 30 of these except for a party. But I don’t see why you couldn’t just use one can of biscuits and reduce the amounts of pepperoni and cheese accordingly.

    Just finished making a batch of these. I love “Pizza Pops” so I’m sure these will be great. They are fairly finikie though so make sure you have an hour to make them. Anxious to see how they turn out !

    These are awesome! I have tried them with barbecue chicken too! It’s fun! But if you put too many in a pan the dough stays pretty mushy. So keep them spread out a little. 😀

    I have not had a problem with them turning out doughy but since every oven varies it is always a good idea to check that food is fully cooked and return it to the oven for a couple more minutes if necessary.

      If they need a little bit longer, and you don’t want the tops to brown more, cover the pan with foil for the extra few minutes that they’re in the oven.
