Crave-Worthy Two Ingredient Dough Garlic Knots are a super easy appetizer or side to serve with pizza or pasta. Better make a double batch!
Our two favorite Italian restaurants in Cocoa Beach, Florida serve delicious baskets of garlic knots! We wanted to make a quick, easy version that can be ready in minutes. Now my family can’t get enough of these two ingredient dough garlic knots!
What is two ingredient dough?
Two ingredient dough is a combination of self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. I usually use Gold Medal self-rising flour and Fage plain, fat-free, Greek yogurt. This basic, yeast-less dough can be used to make so many things from pretzel bites to pizza crust! I’ve been using two ingredient dough for several years now and we still love it.
There is no waiting for yeast to rise, no pulling out half of the ingredients in your pantry, and no kneading for 20 minutes. Just combine, knead a couple of times and you are ready to use the dough.
Mix the two ingredients until the dough clumps together. You can use a hand mixer or a stand mixer.
Can I make self-rising flour?
For one cup of self-rising flour, whisk together one cup of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Please note that this recipe was made using store-bought self-rising flour. If you choose to make your own, your results may vary and you’ll have to make adjustments to the dough.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. I like using a silicone mat.
What should I do if my dough is sticky?
If the dough is too sticky or wet to work with you can knead in a little more flour at a time until it is workable. But keep in mind that this dough tends to be a stickier dough.
Sprinkle the top of the clump of dough with flour and knead the dough several times. Finally, form the dough into a ball.
Cut the dough into eight pieces that are roughly the same size.
Now it’s time to form the two ingredient dough garlic knots. Take one piece of dough and roll it into a long tube. Make a loop at one end and thread the long end through the hole in the loop forming a knot.
Place the garlic knots on a parchment covered baking sheet.
Bake the two ingredient dough garlic knots at
While the garlic knots are baking, put the melted butter, minced garlic, and dried parsley in a small bowl and stir to combine.
What other toppings could I put on two ingredient dough garlic knots?
This butter, garlic, and parsley combination is the one we most commonly use but there are many other delicious toppings you could try! Here are a few suggestions:
- butter, garlic, rosemary
- sprinkle with parmesan after adding garlic butter
- brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar
- sprinkle with everything but the bagel seasoning
Brush the garlic butter over the garlic knots.
Why do these two ingredient dough garlic knots have more than two ingredients?
The dough used to make the garlic knots is only made with two ingredients: self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. If you want to stop there you can eat the plain bread knots. But we prefer to enjoy them with this delicious garlic butter on top.
These two ingredient dough garlic knots are so delicious! Plus I love that it makes a small batch so there are just enough for everyone to enjoy without leftovers.
Can I make these garlic knots with a yeast dough instead?
We used two ingredient dough to make our garlic knots because it is so easy to whip together but yes you can definitely swap it out with another dough. Try using my pizza dough recipe or the dough I use to make soft pretzel nuggets.
