This Two Ingredient Dough Focaccia Bread recipe is a NO YEAST bread that is super easy to make! It can be served as a side, an appetizer, or used for sandwiches.
With times as they are right now, I wanted to make a no yeast bread to share with everyone. We love two ingredient dough naan flatbread and garlic cheddar rolls so I wondered if I could use the same dough to make focaccia bread.
So, I gave it a try and it was a huge success. My daughter told me she is disappointed that she only got one slice and that I really should make it again!
What is two ingredient dough?
Two ingredient dough is simply combination of self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. I first heard about it from a friend who was going to weight watchers and made two ingredient bagels.
Recipes made with two ingredient dough have become wildly popular. Not only are they easy to make but they are also low in Weight Watchers Smart Points since plain, fat-free Greek yogurt is one of the zero points foods on the freestyle program.
Put the self-rising flour and plain, fat-free Greek yogurt in a large bowl.
Is there a recipe for self-rising flour?
For one cup of self-rising flour, whisk together one cup of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Please note that this blog post was made using store-bought self-rising flour. If you choose to make your own, your results may vary and you’ll have to make adjustments to the dough.
What kind of Greek yogurt is used to make two ingredient dough?
I use plain, fat-free Greek yogurt. As far as what brand to use, you can choose whatever kind is available at your local grocery store. I’ve made two ingredient dough with Fage, Oikos, and the store brand and haven’t noticed a difference.
Is there a substitution for the Greek yogurt?
I’ve only ever made two ingredient dough focaccia bread with plain, fat-free Greek yogurt. That being said, readers have told me that they’ve successfully used full fat, 2% or 5% Greek yogurt.
Some have used plain yogurt and one woman even told me that she used sour cream. But their results varied and they have to make adjustments in flour measurements and baking times.
If using a hand mixer, mix at a low speed until combined crumbly.
Can I make two ingredient dough focaccia bread with a stand mixer?
Yes, when using a stand mixer, mix at a low speed until combined. Then, knead at medium speed for about 3 minutes. After three minutes, a ball of dough should’ve formed.
Is it possible to make by hand?
Yes, you can make the dough for the focaccia bread without a mixer. Stir the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt together by hand until combined. Turn it out onto a well-floured surface and knead until smooth adding more flour as needed.
Use a spoon, a spatula, or your hands to press all of the crumbly dough into a ball. Make sure there isn’t any self-rising flour left in the bottom of the bowl.
What should I do if my dough is sticky?
If the dough is too sticky or wet to work with you can knead in a little more flour at a time until it is workable. But keep in mind that this dough tends to be a stickier dough.
Transfer the ball of two ingredient dough onto a floured surface. Kneed several times and form it into a ball.
Coat the bottom of a 10-inch cast iron skillet with olive oil. Place the ball of dough in the skillet, flatten slightly, and turn to coat both sides with olive oil.
Which other pans could I use to make focaccia bread?
If you don’t have a 10-inch cast iron skillet, you can still make this no yeast focaccia bread! You can make it on a rimmed baking sheet, a pie pan, an 8×8 or 9×9 pan. The baking time may vary so keep that in mind.
Next, press and flatten the dough so that it fills the cast iron skillet. Then, use your fingertips to make indentations in the dough by pressing them through the dough all of the way to the bottom.
Drizzle the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with dried rosemary and sea salt.
What other seasonings work on two ingredient dough focaccia bread?
My family loves garlic and it would be a great addition to this recipe. You could also use thyme, parsley, basil, black pepper, oregano, or minced onion.
Bake at 400˚F for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
Allow the two ingredient dough focaccia no yeast bread to cool and then cut it into wedges or breadsticks.
What other flavors can you suggest?
Yes, you can use two ingredient dough to make any variety of focaccia bread you can think of. Here are a few popular choices:
- parmesan
- olive
- tomato
- onion

Mine wasn’t very fluffy. Barely enough to fit the pan. More like thin crust dry pizza.
Tonia Larson says
Hi Sarah,
I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t turn out. Did you use store-bought self rising flour or did you make your own blend? Either way, it sounds like the baking powder didn’t activate. The USDA recommends storing unopened baking powder for only 6 months and after opening it, use it within 3 months.
Best,
Tonia

Delicious recipe and easy only complaint is it doesn’t last long once it’s baked hubby and brother devour it.
Judy says
Tried this focaccia recipe today topped mine with olive oil, parmesan cheese, slivers of tomatoes and red onions and capers with capers and some rosemary, salt and pepper and a few dabs of minced garlic on the dough it was so go it only lasted 15 minutes out of the oven. Got to make more. I want to try fig and goat cheese next but wondering about spices to go with it any suggestions…
Maybe honey/ nutmeg

Can I freeze this to use later?
Tonia says
Hi Janet,
Are you wanting to freeze the dough or the baked bread? I’ve never tried freezing two ingredient dough but I’ve had readers tell me that they have done so successfully. The baked focaccia bread should freeze well.

Thanks. I was planning to freeze the bread, not the dough.

tried this made 3 different items from one batch for just the two of us. I loved the Naan flat bread, the biscuits and the focaccia will be making all these again. So easy and quick.

It isin the oven! But I doubt if it will turn out the way it does in the video. In the video the dough in the bowl seems quit dry. Mine was far from that! Still very wet. I think i’ve added flour at least 5 times. And still it was quit wet and sticky. Put it in the oven as is. Hope it will turn out good anyway…. Cross my fingers 🤞 yours looks zo good!
Jojanneke says
It turned out great! So yummy! A bit too salty for us, so I think I will try 1/2 tsp of that next time. And I think I added about 1/4 cup extra flour. But I will definately make it again!

Fantastic! I’m glad it turned out for you. My family wants me to make this bread all of the time!

Hi, bread delicious!! However, it isn’t quite cooking in the middle. I have tried twice and my friend has also.. what might be happening here? Thank you in advance for responding!
Tonia says
Hello Tracy,
What kind of a pan are you baking it in? There are a few things you can try. Use a pan that is wider so the focaccia is thinner. Add a little more flour to make the dough drier. Or trying baking the focaccia longer.
Best of luck,
~Tonia
