Make your Poultry Seasoning with only six ingredients you already have on your spice rack! Use it for making stuffing or seasoning chicken.

For Thanksgiving dinner this year, I finally decided to figure out how to make homemade dressing! One of the ingredients called for in stuffing or dressing recipes is poultry seasoning. Since I didn’t have any on hand, I quickly made my own mixture using spices I already hand in my cupboard.

What is in poultry seasoning?

a topdown view of the individual spices

There are a lot of different companies that make poultry seasoning so the mixture can vary depending on the brand you choose. I decided to use thyme leaves, ground sage, marjoram leaves, dried rosemary, coarse ground black pepper, and ground nutmeg.

What else can I add to the poultry seasoning recipe?

This mixture is similar to what is found in the McCormick poultry seasoning. Here are some additional spices you can try adding or swap out depending on your family’s preferences and what you have on hand:

  • dried oregano
  • minced onions
  • garlic powder
  • paprika
  • celery seed
  • ground ginger
use a whisk to mix the spices evenly

Put all of the spices in a bowl and stir to combine. I used a small glass measuring cup so that I could use the spout to pour it into a container.

If you prefer using a ground poultry seasoning mix, grind the spices with a coffee grinder or use a mortar and pestle.

Transfer the combined spices to an airtight spice jar for storage and add a label. I love using this labeler to quickly print any label I want!
