slow cooker pork chops

I love using my slow cooker because it is hand off. Just get everything assembled in the crockpot and walk away. Dinner is ready when your family wants to eat.

spices in a small bowl

Start by mixing up some seasonings to rub on the pork chops. Put paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl.

What other spices work on slow cooker pork chops?

You can season the pork chops with your favorite spice blends or simply use black pepper and salt. Other popular spices include onion powder, ground mustard, cayenne pepper, and even brown sugar.

seasoned pork chops

Rub the seasoning mixture on both sides of the pork chops.

coating pork chops with flour

Dredge the seasoned pork chops in flour.

What does it mean to dredge in flour?

Dredging in flour simply means lightly coating with flour. For this recipe, it helps keep the seasoning on the pork and gives the chops a nice, golden brown appearance when seared.

searing in frying pan

Heat olive oil in a frying pan and sear the pork chops on both sides. Remove from heat and set aside.

Why sear pork chops before putting them in the slow cooker?

Searing the pork chops prior to putting them in the slow cooker helps them retain moisture. It also gives the pork chops added flavor and holds the seasoning in place.

Can I skip searing the meat?

Yes, you can skip searing the pork chops but keep in mind that your results will vary somewhat in flavor and appearance. To skip this step, simply season the meat and then add it to the slow cooker after the sauce is in it.

cream soup, sour cream, and chicken broth

Now it is time to prepare the creamy sauce that the pork chops will cook in. Put the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and chicken broth in the slow cooker. Whisk to combine.

Would other cream soups work for this recipe?

Yes, you can use an equal amount of your favorite condensed cream soup instead of the cream of chicken I used to make this recipe. A popular choice when making pork chops is cream of mushroom soup!

cover meat with sauce

Add the seared pork chops and spread a little of the sauce mixture over each chop. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.

whisking sauce in slow cooker

Remove the cooked pork chops and set them aside. Whisk the creamy sauce until smooth.

pork chop with mashed potatoes on a plate

Serve the slow cooker pork chops with mashed potatoes and use the creamy sauce as gravy.

What sides go with slow cooker pork chops?

When we make slow cooker pork chops we like eating them with mashed potatoes and gravy. Instead of mashed potatoes, you could serve them with rice or cauliflower rice.

Other sides that go well with pork chops are salad, mushrooms, corn on the cob, asparagus, roasted vegetables, baked potatoes, or french fries.

I have 8 pork chops – can I just double everything – will it still cook the same if I’m crowding the pot?

Yes, you can double everything. I would allow for extra cooking time since more meat means that it will take longer for everything to come to temp.

My pork was not tender enough. Why? The sauce is delicious.

      Hi Nancy,
Thicker rather than thinner pork chops work best. Sometimes cooking pork longer (up to 7-8 hours) on low can help make it tender. You can also try using bone-in pork chops.
      Best,

I used thin cut bone in. Maybe I will try boneless and thicker. Are yours tender after 3 hours on low? Thanks, Nancy

I marinate all my pork and chicken in soy sauce. When I freeze my meat I put the soy sauce in then. They come out tender everytime and they don’t taste like soy sauce. I hope this helps. ☺️
